Events on South Pearl Street

What happens when you mix a warm summer afternoon, ice-cold draft beer, and some fun, funky music? You get the South Pearl Street Music Festivals. Inaugurated in 2007, the brainchild of a South Pearl Street merchant, the first Blues & Brews debuted on August 11th on the 1200 block of South Pearl Street.

The street was closed and featured a stage at the northern end of the block and farmers market vendors, craft beer brewers, and some local blues bands rocked into the night. Hoping to attract 1,000 people and not to lose too much money, the event was a huge success with more than 5,000 people on the street and–like any great party–a last minute beer run! The first year’s success encouraged the merchants to add a second event, dubbed BrewGrass.

Entering its fifth year, the music festivals have become a neighborhood tradition and a real shindig. Held on the second Saturdays of June, July, and August, this year’s series includes a new genre, jam music and has been affectionately and respectfully nicknamed South Pearl Jam. The question remains–is it a music festival with really good beer or a beer festival with really good music?

Farmers Markets
SUNDAYS
May 20th - November 4th
9am to 1pm

On a picture perfect Sunday morning in September, 2001, Charlotte Elich and Carrie Vadas of 5 Green Boxes launched the first South Pearl Street Farmers Market. Wanting to create an event that would bring neighbors to the street regularly, the first market was a single day event with just ten vendors.

The day was a rousing success, and today–eleven seasons later–the market has grown to 22 weeks, with more than sixty vendors and thousand shoppers and aficionados. The Market has seen many vendors over the years, but would like to specially acknowledge Ela Family Farms, known far and wide for their mouth-watering peaches and apples from the Western Slope, and Styria Bakery, legendary for their fresh baked bread, both of whom have been with us since that very first day in 2001.
